La Corsa dei Santi

Waiting in line to get into St. Peter's Basilica, we discovered that the annual “La Corsa dei Santi” marathon was taking place this morning. In an alternative universe, I would have loved to participate but at least I got to go for an afternoon city run up to Villa Borghese.

Otherwise, we have spent most of the day walking around all the iconic sites such as Fontana di Trevi, Piazza di Spagna and the Colosseum. Like in Venice, one can really tell that mass tourism is back with a vengeance after the pandemic with many entrance tickets selling out days in advance. Compared to when I was here with my first girlfriend 25 years ago, it almost feels like a different city. Tomorrow morning, we are off once again with the Frecciarossa but this time just for an hour down to Naples.
